I am over you BYU Baseball

This is the ONLY picture I took at the baseball games last weekend in Provo.

It would be the only picture from the whole trip, except i spotted my Dylan's Candy Bar boxes on top of the fridge and snapped a shot. Those were one of the best packages i have ever recieved!

Anyway back to the picture. I took it because Kevin was on deck to hit in the game on Saturday. But unfortunately the guy before him got the last out.

I would have taken more pictures, but i am over the byu baseball team.

i left the game early on thursday in salt lake. Yes. you heard me. or read me correctly. i LEFT THE GAME EARLY! since when do i do that?? NEVER!

although this is a bad season to decide i am done. they are actually doing well this year. well better than the past 2 seasons... which i guess isn't saying much. pitching has improved drastically!

Cardinals baseball is 14 days away and i couldn't be happier!!!! My man, Freese, was called back up only 2 weeks after he was sent down to the minors for what seemed pretty permanent... BUT HE'S BACK!

let's cross our fingers he makes the roster come April 2...

My one goal was for Freese to know who i am, and i'm not about to let Joe Mather get in the way of that...

All these places i've been

Speaking of not getting paid at this internship. this means that i don't have much money to do things i love to do like travel and eat out. so after my last trip to wichita, where i spent way more money than i had expected and budgeted out, i decided no more of those little trips. but then the other night as i was driving home from work i thought, how cool is it that i have been to and experienced so many towns all over the U.S.??

from my road trip last summer through North Carolina, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusettes, Ohio and back to Utah. and my many trips to Fresno. and my jaunt to Wichita and Lawrence, Kansas. and many more.... i can say "i've been there!" and i don't want to be able to say it to feel "cool" in front of anyone. it just is fun to experience so much.

While waiting in the airport for my flight back to st. louis yesterday my cousin called me. he said, "you know you can't be taking all these days off when you have a job." I told him that's why I travel so much right now. I won't get fired if I miss a day or two of my internship or if I skip a class here or there. So I am living it up right now!

in all these places i have a cool story from an experience had specific to that location.

like when we were in florida in 2004 and we went to Vero Beach to watch a shuttle take off from Kennedy Space Center and then we went here and i ate alligator tail!

or when i ate at cracker barrell on my road trip last summer. location: milford, ct

So for the next trip i am looking at... Louisville, KY... Chicago (Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular) ... Cincinnati, OH (Great American Ballpark)

You've got a friend in me...

But apparently i don't have one in you...

I thought that maybe I have a twisted view on what a friend should be...

But I wikipedia'd it:
Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behavior between two or more people. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, affection and respect along with a degree of rendering service to friends in times of need or crisis.

So I'm not crazy to think that my friends would be willing to do things for me because of the affection and respect and support we have for each other. But apparently some friends don't support.
So i put my friends into 2 different categories:

My Samantha's - those that won't come to my mother's funeral

My Carrie's - those that will run through the streets of new york in the cold and snow to make it just in time for the ball to drop on new years...

On a lighter note, today i asked a friend for what i thought was going to be a small favor. but it turned into something quite complicated and he helped me out. so i thank him for that.

I'm a slave for you

Guess what I found out??? Channel 4 pays their interns!! WHAT?!?!?

Why can't I get paid for the 35 hours a week that I am here... i wouldn't mind just getting like $5 an hour. at least it's something and makes me feel like i am someone, instead of a slave.

i don't think i have ever worked 35 hours a week in a regular job! So why am i working 35 hours for FREE?!?!?

AK sent me the link to #105 of stuff white people like.

very funny. but sad. why do we settle for that?

i feel like the broadcast industry is FULL of free work.

example:
i was referred to someone for a camera job for the Utah Flash this year. and it all sounded nice and everything until the second that i heard i would have to work EVERY game for no pay. as soon as i found that out, my reply was an immediate no thanks.

i discussed this later with one of my advisors at BYU, who also does photog work. i thought for sure he was going to tell me that i should have taken it for "the experience." but to my surprise he agreed with my decision! and told me don't do a job for free. his theory was: so many people think they can get someone to run a camera or clock box for free because PEOPLE DO! so if people would stop, then an employer is required to pay for the labor.

So all my people out there let's go on strike (as soon as i'm done here and get the recommendations and school credit i need)

NO MORE WORKING FOR FREE!!!!

Back in the Lou and i'm proud

I am SICK of driving. I decided no more for awhile.

And I went to court today for my speeding ticket so there goes my fun fund for awhile. I have an 8 hour traffic school scheduled for April. After driving away I realized it was General Conference Saturday so I am going to need to get that changed.

But Wichita was fun. The second game we won. it was only 2 hours! i got robbed out of an hour of baseball... i am surprised by some of the coaches decisions for starters and pictchers... but hopefully in the end the team will be good.

i got caught up on bachelor while in kc. (one of the good things about going to dad's house - wireless internet. the other good thing - GOOD FOOD! )
i am not happy about any decisions made by the bachelor and those around him. i think molly should have said NO WAY. i think less of her now. and jason needs to have a reality check and realize that the "true love" he's seeking probably won't be found in 6 weeks on national tv.

and i am not happy about jillian being the new bachelorette. i liked her a lot. so therefore don't want her to look like a fool like the previous bachelors and bachelorettes... oh well. i won't watch it though. my new show is celebrity apprentice!

i was so scared dennis rodman was going to get the boot... for some reason i like that dude. but it's the only show that i can actually follow since i don't have anything on sunday nights...

AND FINALLY....

it's girl scout cookies season!!! i definitely stocked up. :)

We're not in Kansas anymore... oh wait

Update:
I'm in Wichita.  At a semi good hotel.  Catching up on old episodes of The Bachelor of course.

Bad news:  As I was checking in to the hotel room, the front desk guy got a call from someone in their room complaining about bugs... and the front desk guy was explaining that the exterminator came last week... blah blah blah.  and said he would be willing to move him to another room or give him a refund.  right then I wanted to butt in and ask for a refund and spend $20 more for a nicer place.
Good news: I SEARCHED my room for any signs of bugs and could not find any.  So I will be able to sleep peacefully tonight (minus the noise from my neighbors.  I hope they go to bed soon.  And don't snore)

I sure love being poor!

Today's baseball game was fun.  It was good to see the team in person and not on a computer screen.  The Wichita State Shockers have a pretty sweet stadium and a half turf field.  the infield is turf but the outfield is grass.  Makes for an exciting game since more balls make it past the infielders quicker without grass to slow them down.  The cougs were ahead the whole game until the bottom of the ninth.  poor pitching on byu's part. and good hitting from the shocker's side led to a base hit to win the game.  too bad, because our starting pitcher did real well and left the game 5-2 in the 6th.  oh well. tomorrow's another day.  i hope it's warmer.

side note: byu fans could learn a thing or two from the shocker's fans.  there were so many of them.  and all loyal.  with their headphones on listening to the radio broadcast of the game while watching it in the freezing cold.  i sat by a group of older men that talked as if they follow every step of the team.  a doubleheader yesterday in 30 degree weather and a game today in 45 degrees.  that's true dedication.  but then again, i doubt there's anything better to do in this city.  from downtown, you can drive 10-15 minutes either way and you're out in the middle of nowhere...

(p.s. my neighbors were just talking about flava of love, i love new york, i love money... classic)
